SCANDAL HYSTERIA GRIPS THE CAPITOL
All you have to do is read the e-mails released by the Administration to see that this is a wholly fabricated scandal. Yes, it has been grossly mishandled by Gonzalez -- if I were President I'd have fired him 5 minutes after that press conference -- and yes, the mis-use of the Patriot Act (in one case) is improper. But the notion that this was motivated by a desire to stop investigations of Republicans is not merely not supported by the e-mails, it is contradicted by them, as Patterico has shown.
Rick, I would only disagree with one thing in your post. I don't think paranoia is what motivates these scandal mongers. I think it is hate. These are people who long ago surrendered their ability to think independently -- they gave it up under pressures from the educational system, pressures to conform to the leftist worldview that thoroughly permeats every level of our education system -- and having surrendered their minds, they are now largely dominated by the emotions of hate and hostility. They are beyond the reach of reason and are unmoved by facts, evidence or data of any sort that contradicts what they need to believe.
These haters need to hate -- and the NY Times and other such publications give them a target for their hatred -- the Bush administration -- and provide endless rationalizations for that hatred in the form of things like this manufactured scandal.
